Reader’s Question:

My girlfriend got a DUI in Arkansas and she wants to get her license. She was informed she needs to get an SR22 to get her license back. She currently doesn’t have an automobile so how does she acquire insurance for a car he does not have?

Your girlfriend will need a non-owners SR-22 in Arkansas if she does not own a car nor has a vehicle in her household in which to place an car insurance policy upon.

As part of the terms of reinstatement for your girlfriend’s driver’s license in Arkansas she will need to get and carry one even if she does not own a car. Normally if you own a vehicle you get the mandated liability coverages and SR22 filing on the car(s) you own. If you do not own a vehicle then you get a non-owners policy which is still the mandated coverages plus you get the SR-22 filed with the state as required there is just no vehicle to list on the policy.

Generally a non-owners SR-22 permits the named insure to operate any car that they are given permission to drive by the car owner, unless the vehicle is owned by a household member.
